Can the oil filter be used interchangeably as long as the installation size is the same?

When changing the oil filter, some people will change the oil filter which is different from the original model and size. Is there a problem with this? Generally speaking, the model of the new oil filter should be the same as that of the original vehicle. It is not recommended to replace the oil filter with a different model. Although many engine oil filter interfaces are the same now, and there is no problem with interchangeable installation, there is still a gap in the internal structure of the oil filter, which still has a certain impact on the service cycle and oil pressure of the oil. Of course, this impact is not necessarily negative, maybe positive, but as an ordinary car owner, it's better not to take this unknown risk.

The design of the connecting thread of the fixed plate of the oil filter is based on the thread of the connecting rod connected with the oil filter on the customer's engine. 1. Engines from different engine manufacturers have different performance requirements for oil filter

The basic performance indexes of engine oil filters required by different engines are different, such as filtration efficiency & ash storage, initial flow resistance, and so on. Each type of oil filter has its uniqueness, except that the new engine platform uses the original oil filter used by other platforms.

In principle, two oil filters with similar or identical dimensions are used for two different engines, and the performance requirements of the two products shall be consistent or close if they can be exchanged.

2. The opening pressure of the built-in bypass valve of the oil filter is different, which is based on the requirements of the OE company

The opening pressure of the bypass valve is the opening pressure point of the bypass valve of the oil filter defined by the OE company according to different engine system requirements.

3. The opening pressure of the check valve (including the oil check valve disc and oil outlet check valve components) varies according to the requirements of different OE companies.

Leakage index of the check valve: check the sealing capacity of the check valve. When the engine is shut down and the oil filter is in the inverted state (it can also be assembled obliquely, but the oil inlet of the machine filter is below the horizontal position), this valve can effectively lock the oil in the inner cavity of the engine oil filter, ensure that the back pressure is established in the inner cavity of the engine oil filter when the engine is started again, and the internal and external pressure of the engine oil filter is balanced to prevent the filter element from being defeated instantly. It is generally restricted by the milliliter (ML) of oil leaked from the closed check valve position in the oil filter per unit time (H).

Based on the above description of some different basic performance requirements of different host companies, it can be learned that although the overall dimensions of the oil filter are the same or close, and the connecting threads are the same, they can not be interchanged, and the risk point is that they cannot fully match the engine system.
