The fuel filter is used to filter impurities in gasoline to prevent impurities from entering the fuel injection nozzle and causing a blockage. Because the nozzle of the fuel injection nozzle is very small, it is easy to be blocked if the impurities are slightly larger.

Strictly speaking, the fuel filtration system of gasoline vehicles is divided into two parts. The first part is coarse filtration. The coarse filter screen is located at the suction inlet of the gasoline pump, where large particle impurities in gasoline are filtered out. The cleanliness of the coarse screen depends on the cleanliness of the fuel. The coarse filter screen of some vehicles is particularly dirty, but it will rarely affect the oil absorption of the oil pump, because all the impurities filtered here are large particles, and the gap between particles is still large, which has little impact on the flow. Of course, if you have a chance to remove the oil pump, it's better to clean it up.

The second part is fine filtration. What we often use here is the fuel filter. There is a dense paper fiber filter screen. The small impurities that cannot be filtered by the coarse filter screen will be intercepted here.

Principle of fuel filter

The gasoline flows in from the right side and is filtered by the filter screen and enters the central cavity of the annular filter screen, where it is connected to the engine, and the filtered gasoline is sent to the engine. Because the external surface area of the filter screen is large, the effective filtering area is large, and there is enough space outside to contain the filtered impurities.

Types of fuel filter

There are two kinds of fuel filters on cars, one is a separate type, and the other is an integrated type. The so-called separation refers to the separation from the gasoline pump, which is not together. This gasoline pump is generally located under the vehicle chassis and close to the fuel tank. After the gasoline is delivered by the oil pump, it is filtered by the gasoline filter and then sent to the engine for use.

The other is the integrated fuel filter, which is integrated with the gasoline pump. The filter element is in the plastic support of the gasoline pump, and the gasoline from the oil pump is the purified gasoline that has been completely filtered.

This kind of fuel filter is troublesome to replace. First, remove the gasoline pump from the fuel tank, and then remove the oil level gauge, oil pump, and other parts and install them on the new filter housing. However, the advantage is that the coarse filter screen can be cleaned at the same time when changing the filter.

Replacement interval of fuel filter

If the fuel filter is too dirty, the fuel supply pressure will be reduced, resulting in poor atomization of the fuel injection nozzle and a too-thin mixture in the cylinder. If it is light, the engine will work abnormally. After parking for a long time, it needs to be ignited many times to start, and if it is serious, the engine will not start.

The replacement cycle of the fuel filter completely depends on the cleanliness of the gasoline you add. If the gasoline you use is very pure, the gasoline filter element can be used without problems for many years. On the contrary, if you use enough gasoline impurities, you may block the gasoline filter for thousands or even hundreds of kilometers. The manufacturer will give a replacement cycle, but this replacement cycle is only an average level. If the oil you add is very clean, it may still be OK after the replacement cycle.

The split fuel filter has a direction, and there is an arrow on the shell to represent the flow direction of gasoline, so be sure not to install it upside down during replacement.
