What is a fuel filter?

There are three types of fuel filters: diesel filter, gasoline filter, and gas filter. The function of the fuel filter is to prevent particles, water, and dirt in the fuel and ensure that the precision components of the fuel system are free from wear and other damage.

Working principle of fuel filter

The fuel filter is connected in series on the pipeline between the fuel pump and the oil inlet of the throttle body. The function of the fuel filter is to remove the iron oxide, dust, and other solid impurities contained in the fuel to prevent the fuel system from being blocked (especially the fuel injection nozzle). Reduce mechanical wear, ensure stable operation of the engine and improve reliability. The structure of the fuel injector is composed of an aluminum shell and supports stainless steel inside. The support is equipped with high-efficiency filter paper, which is chrysanthemum shaped to increase the flow area. The EFI filter cannot be used in common with the chemical oil filter. Since the EFI filter often bears the fuel pressure of 200-300kpa, the pressure strength of the filter is generally required to reach more than 500kPa, while the chemical oil filter is not necessary to reach such high pressure.

Performance characteristics of fuel filter

If the filter is installed in the fuel pipeline, it is called an external filter; Conversely, the internal filter refers to the filter installed inside the fuel pump and fuel tank. The fuel tank filter or its protective sleeve is usually considered to be maintenance-free parts.

Many imported fuel filters use banjo fittings. To ensure the reliability of the connection seal, the same gasket must not be used repeatedly. In addition, even if a brand-new gasket is used, the tightness after connection and fastening must be checked. When the fuel system needs to replace the "O" ring, ensure that the specification and model of the "O" ring are accurate, and check whether the elasticity and hardness of the ring are appropriate.

The loop-free fuel system has only one internal filter (in the fuel tank). Although this all-in-one pump, filter, and delivery unit are expensive, when the fuel delivery is blocked or the engine performance is reduced, it must also be properly maintained in time. At the same time, it is also necessary to check the faults in all fuel pipelines and the cracking and crimping at the hose clamps.

The replacement cycle of the fuel filter

The recommended replacement cycle of the fuel filter should be different according to its structure, performance, and purpose, which can not be generalized. Most automobile manufacturers recommend a replacement cycle of 48000 km for the normal maintenance of their external filter; The recommended maintenance period is 1.920km - 24000km. If you are not sure, please refer to the owner's manual to find out the correct recommended replacement cycle.

In addition, when the filter hose has aging or cracks caused by dirt such as mud dust, and oil, the hose needs to be replaced in time.
