Precautions for the Use of Hydraulic Filters
The contamination of the working medium is the main reason for the failure of the hydraulic system. Statistics show that more than 75% of the failures of the hydraulic system are caused by the pollution of the working medium. The cleaning of hydraulic oil not only affects the working performance of the hydraulic system and the service life of the hydraulic components, but also directly affects whether the hydraulic system can work normally.
The pollution control of hydraulic oil mainly starts from two aspects: one is to prevent contaminants from invading the hydraulic system; the other is to remove the contaminants that have invaded from the system. Pollution control should run through the design, manufacture, installation, use, maintenance and repair of the entire hydraulic system.
Using a suitable oil filter is an important means to control the pollution of hydraulic oil. But if the oil filter is not used correctly, it will cause unexpected results.
The oil filter can only be installed on the pipeline where the oil flows in one direction, and it must be noted that the oil inlet and outlet cannot be reversed. Originally, there is a clear indication of the direction of oil flow on the oil filter. Generally, there should be no error, but in actual use, there are indeed examples of faults caused by reverse connection. This is because the size of the inlet and outlet ports of the oil filter is generally the same, and the connection method is also the same. If the flow direction of the oil is not clear during construction, it may be connected reversely.
When the filter oil is filtered, it originally passes through the filter screen, then passes through the holes on the skeleton, and flows out from the outlet. If the connection is reversed, the oil will first pass through the holes on the skeleton, then pass through the filter screen and flow out from the outlet. What if it's the other way around?
Generally speaking, the initial effect is the same, because the filter is used for filtering, and it will not be found that the connection is reversed. However, with the prolongation of the use time, the pollutants on the filter screen gradually accumulate, the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet increases, and the skeleton acts as a support during forward flow, which can ensure the strength of the filter screen and will not tear the filter screen; When used in reverse, the skeleton cannot support the filter, and the filter is easily torn. Once it is torn, pollutants enter the system together with the torn filter debris and the wire of the filter, which will cause the system to fail quickly. .
As a kind of filtering equipment, hydraulic filter will inevitably contain a lot of intercepted or filtered impurities after long-term use. Cleaning is necessary, which can prevent the flow rate of hydraulic oil from being affected by excessive impurities, which will lead to the normal operation of the hydraulic system.
How to clean the hydraulic filter?
✔️Step 1
Place the filter in the solvent tank. You should wear rubber gloves throughout the entire procedure. Place the filter gently in the tank; do not drop it.
✔️Step 2
Turn on the solvent pump. The switch should be located on the side of the tank. Allow the solvent to flow through the nozzle.
✔️Step 3
Clean the filter. Place the filter beneath the solvent and rinse it off thoroughly. While rinsing, use your toothbrush to scrub off dirt and debris. The solvent will dissolve dirty oil clogging the filter, so allow it to run freely over the entire filter medium . When cleaning is complete, turn off the solvent feed. Shake the filter to remove excess solvent.
✔️Step 4
Pour 1 gallon of hydraulic fluid into a 2-gallon bucket. Be careful not to splash it.
✔️Step 5
Put your filter inside the bucket and swish it around in the hydraulic fluid for about 5 minutes. This will neutralize any solvent left over from the cleaning process.
✔️Step 6
Reinsert the filter according to the instructions on your appliance. The used hydraulic fluid in the bucket can be recycled at most major gas or service stations.
